U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command
Established
in 1990, the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) is the Air
Force component of the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM). AFSOC is
responsible for direct action, special reconnaissance, civil affairs,
psychological operations, counter-terrorism, and foreign internal
defense. With their organic high-tech equipment and fixed and
rotary-wing aircraft, AFSOC forces accomplish these missions in hot
spots around the world. The command has well over 12,000 active
component, reserve component, Air National Guard and civilians included
in its forces. AFSOC has over 160 fixed and rotary-wing aircraft
assigned to it.
